McLaren team principal Andrea Stella does not agree with the Mercedes read. "I think the improvement, from a competitiveness point of view, can be entirely ascribed to the upgrades that we took here," he said, adding that the team had not expected the lap time step to be enough for pole at the Hungaroring, let alone that race pace. McLaren brought a revised floor body, a new rear wing endplate and new rear corner winglets to Budapest.
